Canadian Bible Society Announces New Director and Fresh Direction
TORONTO, ON The Canadian Bible Society (CBS) is pleased to announce the appointment of the Reverend Ted Seres as its new national director. Seres, 48, joins the CBS from his most recent role as coordinator of several outreach ministries in the national office of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada. For the past 3 years, Seres has also served on the national Board of Governors of the CBS.
Seres begins his duties June 18 and anticipates a new chapter for one of Canada's oldest inter-confessional ministries. "Our mission statement is 'translating, publishing, distributing and encouraging the use of God's Word.' That is what we are all about," explains Seres. "But it is a new day for us in living out that mission."
Seres says the CBS will more aggressively search out "partnerships with churches and like-minded organizations." High on Seres' list of priorities will be repositioning the society, comprised of 16 districts from across the country, as an "extension of the Church, and not a parachurch organization."
"When a church is thinking of any kind of outreach, I'd like them to think of us as one of their partners. There are a number of missional opportunities in Canada right now," says Seres. "The Bible Society is uniquely positioned - both in its mission of providing relevant scripture materials and its grassroots, national character - to help empower the Canadian Church in its renewed missional focus. We're excited about that."
Brian Strom, chair of the CBS Board of Governors, applauds the appointment. "What I see in Ted is a man with vision as well as a deep understanding of the past and present work of the Canadian Bible Society. We're happy to have him leading our team for our next chapter of mission in Canada and around the world."
The Canadian Bible Society is a member of the United Bible Societies, a fellowship of more than 140 national Bible societies around the world. The societies work in partnership with churches and other Bible agencies to facilitate and support translation work around the globe.
