Canadian Bible Society mourns Serge Rhéaume
TORONTO, ON It is with deepest sorrow that The Canadian Bible Society (CBS) announces the death of Serge Rhéaume, Director, National French Work (Secteur Francophone National) and Director of Scripture Resources.
Rhéaume died Sunday, November 18, at his home in Laval, Quebec, six months after being diagnosed with cancer. He was 62.
Director of the Francophone Division since 1984, and Director of Scripture Resources since 2005, Rhéaume created marketing strategies and oversaw the development of Scripture products in French and later in all other languages for CBS and often in partnership with the United Bible Societies (UBS).
During his more than two decades with CBS, Rhéaume served in many leadership positions. He facilitated marketing and fundraising training courses, served various regional boards and committees locally within the CBS and globally within the UBS and was a member of the Board of the Catholic Bible Society. In his spare time, Rhéaume volunteered regularly at hospitals in Toronto and Montreal.
“Often times people are remembered for what they do; their accomplishments.” says Rev. Ted Seres, National Director of the Canadian Bible Society. “Far greater, Serge will be remembered for who he was. As one of our staff commented, ‘he was passionate, honourable, dedicated, wise, principled, dignified, filled with joy, filled with the spirit of Christ, a spiritual man and a friend.’ Serge leaves behind a wonderful legacy for his CBS family and the greater family of the United Bible Societies around the world.”
Rhéaume will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He had a deep commitment to prayer and to the Bible cause. He often referred to the day he was asked to join CBS, mentioning the fact that he accepted the position because he wanted to become a “Sower of the Seed.”
