FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CANADIAN BIBLE SOCIETY APPOINTS NEW NATIONAL DIRECTOR
TORONTO The Board of Governors of the Canadian Bible Society is pleased to announce the appointment of Reverend Glen Pitts to the position of National Director.
"We are delighted that Glen has agreed to join our organization," said Ken F. Taylor, Chair of the Board of Governors. "In his work with previous ministry organizations, he has proven to be a visionary, with a demonstrated ability to provide leadership in the development of new initiatives and revitalization of already effective programs."
An ordained minister with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada (a Protestant Christian denomination), Rev. Pitts has worked with Youth For Christ, Every Home For Christ International (previously known as World Literature Crusade) and Campus Crusade for Christ. His ministry has taken him to over 100 countries around the world. Glen also brings pastoral experience. In Kingston, Ontario, his last pastorate, Rev. Pitts hosted "Life," a Saturday night, half-hour television program on the local CBC affiliate station.
"I am very pleased to be a part of the team at the Canadian Bible Society," said Rev. Pitts. "I believe that God has led me here for this time, to support the Bible cause. I look forward to helping further the mandate and worthy mission of the Canadian Bible Society," he added.
As part of his vision for the Canadian Bible Society, Rev. Pitts would like to see increased vitality at all levels of the organization. "I think we need to capture the zeal of youth. Youth bring passion and energy," he said. "For our older constituency I would add that increased vitality has little to do with age. It has everything to do with attitude and with being able to be flexible and adjust to needed change," he commented.
When not at work, Rev. Pitts enjoys reading, riding his motorcycle and downhill skiing. He makes his home in Mississauga, Ontario with his wife of 35 years, Janette. They have two married sons.
The Canadian Bible Society exists to promote and encourage, without doctrinal note or comment, the translation, publication, distribution and use of the Bible. The Bible is a compilation of works revered by Christians, written by more than 40 authors over a period of about 1,600 years (from approximately 1500 B.C. to 100 A.D.) The Canadian Bible Society has Bibles, New Testaments and Scripture portions available in 111 foreign languages as well as 23 Canadian aboriginal languages.
Formally founded in 1904 and chartered in 1906, the Canadian Bible Society is a member of the United Bible Societies, a fellowship of 137 national Bible societies. The societies work in partnership with churches and other organizations in more than 200 countries around the globe.
